The Fishing is Good

This 65 pound Grouper was hooked by this young lady, surf fishing in front of      Three Mile Station.
Three Mile Station
Kitty Hawk's oldest beachfront

This home was one of the most unique homes on the Outer Banks for years, while many homes were no more than what was known as a beach box.  As money poured into the Outer Banks, many of the new multi million dollar homes adopted the Victorian Stick design of Three Mile Station.  Today, almost every home built carries the Victorian Stick design.  Builders, designers, and architects visit this home often and I've been told Three Mile Station's front porch design was placed on a three story multi million dollar home, but the architect said to me, it looks better on your house than mine.

Like anyone doing something he loves, I always find something else to do for the home's design and restoration.  But sometimes one has to stop and let someone else take over, someone who has the same passion and expression of love for something unique.  And best of all, it is NOT cramped between two other noisy and busybody eye stairing from beach houses 10 feet away.
This passion comes with spacious privacy and has a 180 degree beach and ocean view.  You have elbow room for landscaping and a backyard that extends forever!

The Historic Story of Three Mile Station

Before bridges were built to the Outer Banks, Captain Marlin Winston settled on the shores of Kitty Hawk, in the home called
"Three Mile Station" in 1896.   His wife, Rebecca, kept the home illuminated with lanterns to guide her husband home from the sea.

The lights became known to passing seamen as the Lights of the Three Mile Station.  Late in 1941, Captain Winston's boat, Dolphin Watch, was struck by a torpedo from a German U-Boat, and Captain Winston was presumed lost at sea.  Rebecca was said to have drowned in sorrow, but kept the oil lights burning for years hoping that her husband would somehow come home.
Rebecca kept the old Three Mile Station illuminated for years.  This beacon of hope was in no way unnoticed by hundreds of other passing seamen.   The flickering shore lights guided seamen and helped them identify their location at sea.  The saga of Captain Winston and Rebecca became legendary among passing seamen and their wives.  The oil light were kept burning until her health declined in the early 1950's.  Rebecca passed away a few years later on the Mainland.

Great house, we really enjoyed the history of Rebecca.  The kids enjoyed the keyboard and big screen TV.  Beautiful view from the livingroom and under the house is wonderful during the late afternoon.  We have enjoyed our week!  Everyone walking by stops and looks, asks questions or even take pictures!

We had a great time, so relaxing just to get away from the daily hustile and bustle.  It was wonderful being so close to the beach.  Lots of people stopped us to ask us about the house.  The story of Rebecca was really interesting and the decor was great.  We can't wait to come back.

The place was great.  It had all the things we needed to survive on for a week.  There were few little problems but not much of a deal.  We loved the history of Rebecca.  We hope we can come again.  We really enjoyed our time.

Fabulous home, fabulous setting.  Eye candy everywhere you turn.  Crabs on the beach are entertaining to watch.  Dolphins spent part of a day swimming amazingly close to shore... absolutely beautiful.  Great shelling.

We enjoyed our stay in the house.  We loved the view and the easy access to the beach.  The weather was perfect all week.  We used the deck morning, noon and night.  The house seems to be the most popular house on the beach.  Passerbys were always stopping and pointing.
